TOPIC: Watch straps
#109890
Watch straps 11 Years, 5 Months ago
A bane of my life - I like leather watch straps but they fall apart so fast. One of my watches (I wear one on each wrist - one for night; one for day) - a Diesel - had the strap go. "£50 for a new one"... then the wrong one arrived. Then they couldn't find the right one. So, in Tunisia, I got a local leather expert hand make a beautiful new strap; real black leather, thick, rich, strong... cost? £4.

I gave up on finding a stainless steel leather strapped watch years ago. Hooray for phones!

I wish we still had proper cobblers who could do things with leather. I have been looking for someone to fix the strap on my bag (only needs a matching stud) but they look at me as if I am bonkers when I ask.

After years of more expensive watches I moved over to a Swatch a couple of years ago.£28....best thing I ever did.
In hot climates,or when washing hands etc the leather straps go horrible and smelly.I tried all types of straps, and even in the UK I got £4 fitted straps, which were just as bad,and often broke.
Go plastic!

Quite amusing; 485 people have read this thread in the 18 hours since I posted it. It makes me wonder sometimes what planet strangers must think we're on!

Well my LEFT wrist wears my Davis; very futuristic, a mirrored screen that needs a button pressing to tell time, day, date; useful at night. Lots of comments. My right wrist has the Diesel - huge traditional face with 02, 03 and 04. The younger crowd love it. Both have leather straps.
