"My priority is to give victims confidence to come forward" says top cop 11 Years, 5 Months ago
On TV, about the rape figures (many reports are found to be "No Crime") a head of police made the above comment. My question - WHY? I wouldn't dream of saying his priority should be to discover whether such claims are false, mistaken or imagined. Just that it should be equally important.
Are we, as a society, incapable of balance in sexual matters? The media certainly is. Almost every media outlet simply cannot see the other side and refuses to examine it, let alone publish it.
I only wish detectives would say "My priority is to prove the accused is NOT guilty of murder" when examining such cases. There would be uproar. "You will be believed when you deny the charge".
No, balance, for God's sake. "My priority is to find the truth".
And if that priority destroys a good story, so be it.

Fair enough, but perhaps it might also be helpful to them if it is made abundantly clear that proven false complainants and police time wasters will be prosecuted...
