SAKKARIN - SUGAR SUGAR 11 Years, 5 Months ago
Jonathan I'm just watching on YouTube the TOTP performance of Sakkarin.

This has turned a bubblegum pop song into a heavy metal anthem - how or what on earth
gave you the idea to do it this way .. it's genius !!!

Glad you like it; one of my stranger ideas! It sold over 400,000 at the time.

Bob Stanley in "Yeah Yeah Yeah" (his highly recommended book about the history of pop 1950-2000):

"One of Jonathan King’s better musical gags was to try and bridge this real or imagined divide by recording a heavy-rock version of ‘Sugar, Sugar’ under the name Sakkarin - it was convincing and danceable enough to reach number twelve in 1971."

aah those were such wonderful days when records sold like crazy .. by the truck load..

I think nearly every pop record producer and songwriter kind of wishes they were back in those times
where there were such fabulous rewards because everyone bought them...
