TOPIC: Flood Malapropisms
#110916
Flood Malapropisms 11 Years, 5 Months ago
For some reason there are (damp) gems emerging; a young reporter just told us people were getting ready - "evacuating themselves" and earlier a lady looked at the water rising at a hotel across the river and said "there are chairs and tables but I doubt whether anyone will be enjoying afternoon tea there this morning".

Not a 'malapropism' but another observation......Political 'hot potato' about dredging? OK, so it would help a little, and best practice applies that it ought to have been done.......

BUT, a maths man working in environmental circles demonstrated the cold hard fact that any extra flow rate calculated into litres, gallons or whatever you want to use WOULD NOT have stopped the current flooding in any way, sheer volume is not the same as increased flow...............

and do they report that? Nah, cos you can't batter a politician with a fact like that

The current Sky news (website) headline is -

Soldiers sent in after flood victim's plea

What are the soldiers going to do?
Attack the floods ?
Bomb them?
Arrest them ?
Order them to retreat (and flow uphill) ?

Judging by their recent endeavours elsewhere, they'll wade in, do no good, then hang around indefinitely after it's all over.

Killing a few women and children and losing a few limbs whilst doing it, Pru.

Very good point WV - I was thinking of the Dutch (one of my favourite races)… they have coped so intelligently. Where is a little boy with his finger in a dyke when you need one?

It's a fun time for lesbians when there's a flood in the Netherlands.
