TOPIC: Mad religious people
#111278
Mad religious people 11 Years, 5 Months ago
Watching TV; religious people and their beliefs - sometimes provoking good behaviour, sometimes bad - sound quite barmy to most of us. "God planned this… God meant that…" is basically insanity. Which is why I can't understand decent, intelligent gay people wanting to conform to a religious ceremony when many of those religions consider them abominations.

People who need religion are usually lost in life, bible contradicts a lot schools never talk about or explain Leviticus or Romans.

The entire Church of England is apparently welcoming. (According to the bishop of Liverpool on the radio the other day)

Why can't people just accept their own religious beliefs (whatever they are)?

Why the fanatical need to "convert" everyone else?

Do unto others .... ?

I take being C of E less literally as religion and more of the cultural tradition I was brought up in.....so I was baptised as a baby, Sunday school, married in church.......but not really religious, more following the cultural norm......and I guess the gay requirement for validation as equals involves access to the same traditions as the rest of the population, rather than the gay community being more religious than the majority.......that wouldn't be statistically correct, would it?

My view is that I'd like to see people who demand equality to just be a bit more accommodating to the majority view than giving the impression that the world is ALWAYS wilfully out to get them.....race, gender, sexuality, religion........equality is a right, but the world can't be governed by a single harmonised authority, unfortunately, and people always want the good sides of other communities rights, they never want the 'bad'...........but not all communities are moving at the same pace

I think Jesus spread it in a rather less agressive way.

It's a good point.

Personally (though I believe in something) neither do I want religion shoved down my throat & neither do I want homosexuality shoved down my throat either.

What people choose to do in their own life, is totally up to them. I do not give a toss what they do. But I don't want people talking about things, like they are a neccesity.

Reminding me of an old Dave Allen joke:

In heaven, a man is shown around. The leader tells him "Over there, we have the Muslims, over there we have the Hindus, over there we have the Buddhas, over there we have the Jehovah witnesses, over there we have the C Of E's.
The fella being shown round says "What's behind that wall over there?"
"Oh" says the leader "The Cathoolic's are behind there, because they like to think they are the only people here!"

But the rampant atheists are the most aggressive of all. It is the newest religion.
