So far - really pleased by BAFTAs 11 Years, 5 Months ago
Gravity... the supporting guy in Captain Phillips... I'd love Tom Hanks to get Best Actor for the last 10 mins of that film... Greengrass Best Director... now a few for Cate in Blue Jasmine, Coogan and Dench for Philomena, something for the under rated Le Weekend, yes, it's going well, just please nothing for 12 bloody years a slave.

Jennifer Lawrence (who I've got a crush on) - a worthy winner but I reckon Sally Hawkins ought to get the Oscar.

Best director Cuaron - superb job though Greengrass is my favourite action director and I think Woody Allen did a splendid job too.

Actress HAS to be Cate - superb; Emma excellent in Mr Banks; Amy Adams wonderful (though even better in Doubt); Sandra stunning; Judi magnificent but Cate MUST win surely...

Hurrah! JK predicted this after seeing Blue Jasmine. One of the best acting performances I've ever seen.

And a classy tribute by Cate for my (late) favourite actor (along with Brendan Gleeson and Jim Broadbent) PSH... now best film? Gravity, please: I'd settle for Philomena, Captain Phillips but NOT 12 Years A Slave please...

Oh how infuriating! A dreadful, dull, one dimensional, endless, obvious bore of a film.

So… the morning after…

I found the wins for Slave very peculiar although I'm sure it's ME rather than the Judges… I think my problem is that I've got really fed up with ONE DIMENSIONAL films and performances. What I loved about the 6 films (in a row) I saw in November/December was their multi faceted elements.

I didn't enjoy Wolf or Hustle for that reason; both brilliant movies with sensational performances by great actors but very one note.

12 Years A Slave, though, went to an extreme. I hated Lincoln for similar reasons. Just one message, one angle, one tune repeated endlessly.

It's a problem I have with society too. Slogan politics, media headlines, simple solutions for complex problems.

It could lead to the demise of our species. And it's certainly ruining the art form of films. And music - but that's another story.
