I've not commented on this, as instant, superficial commentary helps nobody.
Of course, politicians will play the blame game.
But all politicians are useless in varying ways. That's why I shall never vote again.
Democracy does not work and it never will.
Individual responsibility is essential.
Protection for ones own homes. Don't rely on government, local or national; don't expect insurance to cover things.
Take your own measures. If you buy property on flood land, expect to be flooded and take precautions.
Anticipate.
If renting; be aware of what could - and probably will - happen.
Just as we need individual accountability for public officials, so we need to take responsibility for ourselves, our loved ones and our properties.

Unfortunately not everyone can afford the insurance or to choose where they live and have to take what they can get.
