Life sentences - is it just me? 11 Years, 5 Months ago
I was under the impression that nobody (certainly not the ECHR) had said Life Sentences were illegal. They simply said there MUST be a review process. It breaches human rights to have all hope removed. The British Court of Appeal have decided (weasel words) that compassionate release if prisoners are within weeks from death means there IS a review process.
So the battle (and expense) goes on. Meanwhile children die because the money wasted on this silly argument is not spent on buying new equipment for hospitals.

Exactly right, JK
I would have thought that it was in everyone's interest to have a review process - otherwise the prisoner has little to hope for, and would NOT make a very model prisoner !

This is the same as life on the Sex Offender Register.
life was life but now you can get a review after 15 years on it.
they will come up with some kind of appeal at 30 years for whole life tarifs.
I met at least two whole lifers, both cannot be released I tell you, they cannot cope out here, its far to tempting.
