A disaster. He gabbles too much, hysterical nervous laughter, silly superficial questions… Let's hope he settles in but the signs are - he is simply NOT a chat show host.

Mind you, that format is so tired. When I was asked by the BBC to host a weekly chat show, in the early 80s, I came up with a different format (Entertainment USA) that included interviews (all the fat trimmed off) with film trailers, music, travel, information and other entertainment. I still think it worked better than the desk, chair, audience format.

Incidentally, McIntyre's first guest was Wogan. Guess who was Wogan's first guest (on the pilot)? Me.

Gordon Elsbury was his director and asked me if I'd do it as a favour.

They all copy so much from Letterman, which only reminds people of how good Letterman is. I wish they'd carry his own show over here. As for McIntyre, I quite enjoyed his chat with Wogan, but Lily Allen should be shunned by all shows. An infuriating woman. As you say, the host needs to calm down hugely (but Norton started out very OTT but is brilliant these days). At least McIntyre is a comic, unlike the increasingly wretched Jonathan Ross, who thinks he is a comic rather than just a presenter.

Yup - Jonathon Ross has completely lost it. It seemed to happen at the same time as he 'left' the BBC. His Saturday radio show was just brilliant.
Saw him last weekend laughing at guests jokes and it was embarrassing.
Such a pity
