TOPIC: Bob Crow - Larger Than Life
#112575
Bob Crow - Larger Than Life 11 Years, 4 Months ago
Another silly expression, over used and meaningless. I suggest the only thing larger than life is death.

He was being slagged off by some Mail hack on Sky (what a combination that is!) last night, I guess as he was dying. What will those two ghastly media outlets do now without one of their favourite 'leftie' punchbags? Having said that, the woman on the BBC news channel - Joanna Goslin, a subtly right-on sort of character who irritates me more and more - is acting like a saint has passed away, trying to get Boris Johnson to say something divisive when the poor bloke was just trying to be respectful and diplomatic. No one actually seems to realise these days that trying to be impartial on the news isn't some shameful sign of weakness.

Well, well, well ... 52 and dead (one freebie too many?)

Thats what happens when you have all that bile / anger / envy and jealousy !

I wonder how many of those who had their journeys ruined last month will be sad?

I also wonder who "owns" Silliband now?
(I suppose we shall have to wait till the will is read out) LOL !

I think my point about impartiality was clear enough.

oh come on ITK- Crow obviously just died of a heart attack as so many do..not 'bile' and so on.

I saw no signs of class hate and such but clearly he was a tough nut union man as they need to be. Talk of envy is stupid. Do you really expect working people in unions to just take what is given and not fight for more ? That is simply not logical.

He reminded me much of my grandfather on my mother's (working class) side who was also a tough old Scots union boss- and they damn well have to be.

I thought the Mail attack on him when he was on holiday in Rio was so tacky and I can never work out who those articles are supposed to appeal to.
and pretty mean considering he had a short time to live.

Yes it's been fascinating watching the coverage; he was a character and he achieved a great deal. I far prefer people like him to the grey, spoon faced, nervous idiots who pretend to govern us these days, but actually live in terror of tabloid editors.

It was a cynical article, yes, but how on earth were they supposed to know he had a short time to live??

I didn't say they should know but it's why one should be prudent and avoid going for the throat especially when it was claptrap. It wasn't cynical-it was nasty, vicious and a complete non-news story

The Mail (and other) British tabloids are the most destructive on this planet. Gutter tactics in the hope of whipping up hate amongst the Mail's most brain numbed morons.

It's why some poor bloke in a council flat photographing his damaged pot plants gets battered to death and has his body set on fire.

and I'm now pleased the Mail's proposed online Oz version is finding advertisers in Australia are slamming the door on them while the Guardian's Oz version is booming.

He was a dinosaur belonging to a previous era ... men like him brought the UK to its knees in the 1970s - lost hundreds of thousands of jobs and are still trying to blame others for their own work !!!!

A heart attack probably .... brought on by a greedy lifestyle (he ate at the best London restaurants), had lavish holidays, earned a small fortune AND deprived someone of a Council house (as he insisted in living in one).
Where was his "consideration" for the five million on social housing waiting lists there ????

Never speak ill of the dead (because they are gone and cannot do any more damage) - BUT learnt from past mistakes.

Odd. I guess we're talking at cross-purposes.

I don't see why my saying it was cynical meant I didn't also think it was nasty and vicious. You can write a nasty and vicious article that is actually sincere and well-deserved. It's the ones that are also cynical that I find hardest to excuse.

And I still don't understand what you mean by the above - do you mean every time tabloid hacks write a critical article they should pause and wonder if their subject might not have long to live? I've met plenty of hacks and I doubt any are capable of that degree of discipline, let alone foresight.

As Max Clifford, Rebekah Brooks, the News of the World, Andy Coulson and others are busy discovering, KARMA has a habit of biting you on the bottom when you least expect it and the nasty side of the Mail (the best but the nastiest paper in Britain) has been building up bad karma for years and years. I dread to think what will happen.

I suspect one of our many comedians-turned-professional atheists (oh, if only they'd been around to put David Hume right!) will write a pompous article in the Guardian pointing out that 'karma' is a concept rooted in irrationalism and mysticism.

It hasn't missed the internet boat, the Mail online app is very popular and FREE.........so that won't sink it yet.

Where it might struggle is miss judging popular mood.....but here is a thought.......if it so far hasn't been outrageous enough to stop people buying it, does that mean it is so far matching enough popular public mood to actually be reflecting a good portion of the populus, like it or not?

let's not dance around in circles koogedelbbog ... both our views are apparent. But you refer to 'journalists' as though that's who write these articles.
They are no such thing- they are the modern eqivalent of over-the-backyard-gossipers spreading bile and hate for no other reason that the other listener laps it up.

They are the modern day Poison Pen Letter author- you will note these more vicious stories are anonymous and by a "Daily Mail (Mirrror, Express, Sun) journalist "

ITK you are talking utter nonsense and you are the only dinosaur is you if you believe British citizens of any class or job description are not entitled to eat in the best restaurants or go where they wish to on holiday.

But if you have proof that one of London's better establishments poisoned him- do let us know so we can avoid it.

I believe karma works this way and not in some mysterious fashion :

when somebody does something to me that is truly atrocious I never seek revenge. I always think if they do that to me for no reason it's part of their make-up and they are bound to be doing awful things to other people- some who will respond , unlike me, and will take action.

People say 'karma' but in old fashion ways..."he'll get his comeuppence one day" and so on.

The MailOnline is hugely successful and why not- it's a colorful and easy read (but the nasty bits really are dreadful). In a way karma is hitting them as they try to seek a market in Oz. Limited advertising $$ are wary of being associated with the nasty side of the Mail.
They should have been aware : Rupert Murdoch's Oz tabloids are losing readers by the tens of thousands very 6 months. They are now financially supported by his TV ventures.

At the last election he went too far and alienated what is referred to here as 'the doctor's wives'- the so-called middle class of professionals who may vote Tory as it suits them but have sympathy with the working class. Murdoch's depiction of Labor MPs as Stalinists & Nazis has revolted them ( and the influential Jewish lobbies in the big cities).

So Murdoch may get his comeuppence through his own efforts- depending on the Hacking Trials and if he can secure Oztralia as his own fiefdom before his empire collapses.

Of course ... what sickens me is this "we are all brothers" mentality when he clearly wanted the best for himself (as so many Labour people do) and to hell with the others (I'm keeping MY council house !)

SOD the five million on housing waiting lists - they can fend for themselves.

He's no different to the champagne socialists who ALL went to public school, ALL live in very exclusive (Tory) areas, and ALL tell the "working man" they will do the best they can for them (knowing all along that what they need to do is keep them in the gutter so that have an audience to play to).

Which is worse? ... their hypocrisy - or the stupidity of those that follow them (and are too dumb to see the truth) ?
