TOPIC: The Silence of the Lambs
#112642
The Silence of the Lambs 11 Years, 4 Months ago
This was on one of the ITV channels last night and I watched it again for the first time in ages. A terrific movie, clever yet brilliantly put together (particularly the sequence at the end when the viewer is fooled about the FBI raid). Funny how great art survives the times. Talking of which; my Harriman's Herbal Tea (a million Mexicans can't be wrong) hoodie arrived and I've been wearing it all week.

Its predecessor (ish), Manhunter, is well worth watching again. A better movie in some ways.

Silence of the Lambs is the only film that truly 'frightened' me. I watched it on the big screen when it first came out, and walked home from the Cinema along a poorly lit pathway by the river in Bedford - I admit I was so spooked, I ran until I came to a well-lit public area. Never happened with any other film, no matter how frightening they were.
Anthony Hopkin's portrayal was one of 'Hollywood's' iconic performances

Brian Cox played the role in Manhunter. Less of a Larry Olivier 'turn' than Hopkins', and all the more chilling for it. There's a real sense of tension that builds up in that movie that is more authentic than in 'Lambs'.

Always preferred Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs was over-hyped in my opinion.

it scared me too, and I am still frightened of anthony hopkins even when he is being himself.

Oh Pru, I love you - Manhunter (1986) is a FAR SUPERIOR film to Silence of the Lambs.

Always felt that Anthony Hopkins was "taking the piss" out of Lecter. Brian Cox's Lecter is sublime, focused and brilliant and not the panto villain that Hopkins turned him into.
