without a doubt some British kids who were sent to Australia were badly treated from the word go. Often lied to that they had no family in some cases and made to believe they were going on a grand adventure.

Many found themselves in vast country homes ( like Duncroft ?)and fiddled with by priests and made to work in gardens or in some cases, sent out to work in the local towns.

What we are not being told is that the majority were treated well and grew up happy, considering the conditions they came from. I know one such former kid- now a grandfather who says his time ina Catholic home was very happy, as were his fellow residents, but he won't vocally defend the home for fear of being shot down in media flames.

And yet another bizarre and impossible bid to remove Sir William's knighthood via a Royal Commission in Oz ?..uhhh..they have no such powers.
## Sir Bill does have many UK direct family members but I guess their feelings don't matter.

I can see Arthur C Clarke name being mentioned again, there was speculation when he was alive but faded.

good point except : there is no-one or estate left to sue.

I knew Clarke and he was suing 2 NGOs for libel but the lawsuits died with him.

Clarke's estate has been distributed to his life long partner but his papers and manuscripts including some unpublished works are all lying gathering dust in his Sri Lankan house.

They were meant to go to the Smithsonian. But it's all owned by his partner.

## David Hill was an orphan who was sent to Oz and brought up in Fairbridge where the claims emanate from.
He eventually became a Labor MP and then the Chairman of the ABC.
I've read his diaries and he describes his time there as very happy and that those who looked after him were kind to the kids (as he sees it).
He aknowledges that 2 former students told him they were abused by Slim but he also says he once went in Slim's Rolls for a ride but about 8 kids clambered into the car.

Sir William visited Fairbridge twice...what is the likelihood of him being alone ( this was the GG remember..Aide de Camp, teachers, head master) with just one kid and taking him for a drive ?. Slim i'd say.

Interesting post Hedda. There may be nothing left his of the estate, but people will come out the wood work and sell their story to the media, we never know the truth just speculation.
