TOPIC: Gay marriage
#113439
Gay marriage 11 Years, 3 Months ago
Most who are against it are basically homophobes disguising their bigotry (like some of those who howl about paedos). Of course, if gay people want to "marry" they should. But I find the entire thing odd because marriage is so closely linked to religions, almost all of which condemn same gender sex as a sin and those sinners as bound for Hell.

Why would anybody want to be connected with bigoted faiths?

Marriage is no longer as closely connected to religion as it was. It's more a civil status for many these days.

The only thing I don't like about marriage you can only have one wife. Why should peoploe give a toss who is gay unless your the Daily Mail or The Sun ?

agree with JK but now I realise there are very serious legal reasons to get hitched.

especially when AIDs was attacking the gay community- many partners were diddled out of inheritances.

I know one similar case now..a former powerful media man who died a year ago and had lived with his partner for 40 years..a Scottish waiter.

now his estate is embroiled in family members trying to get the poor man's house- family who didn't speak to him for years because he was gay. they are treating the remaining partner disgracefully.

wouldn't happen if he was a woman and they had married.

I have campaigned for equality under the law, and with civil partnership gays got it - but "marriage" is a farce, and they will not be happy with it. They want equality and what they have now got is silly - and sets them up for more ridicule.

Are they Mr & Mrs Smith, Mr & Mr Smith, or Mrs and Mrs Smith ? (and which one is which?)

They want recognition - esp by the churches - and that is still denied. They want to feel the same as everyone else gut until someone grants them IVF and surgically impants a vagina into one of them - they are still going to be disappointed.

Many gays are quite lovely individuals with personality, taste, and talent ... why on earth would they want to be the same as everyone else (esp when they know if can never happen) ?

Like I said .... civil partnerships wiped ALL that out, hedda (are you not paying attention?)

Marriage provides NOTHING new (except a very confused situation)

Except for the chance to be married in church, but as far as I understand, the churches are not going to be forced to perform marriage ceremonies anyway.

Are civil partnerships scrapped now then?

The Church of England and Church of Wales are actually BANNED from performing the ceremony.

The Catholic Church will of course have nothing to do with anything so silly - they never bow to public fads or pressure.

No - you can choose (but the gays, of course want both !!!!)
Anyone currently in a civil partnership can "change" that and get married (but not until later, as the law has enacted yet).
