Hello Jonathan, I am an Englishwoman, about the same age as you. I have lived permanently in the US since 1966. I was there when your hit "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" came out and I absolutely loved it and I still do. I think it's a brilliant song. I still have it amongst my 45s. When the story broke about your sexual escapades, I went to YouTube and found the B&W video of you when you were just a lad singing that lovely song. Looking so innocent which of course you were - we all were. I noticed that Jimmy Saville was hanging around the kids in the audience. Possibly he had promoted your performance. Then he died and his story came out. It occurred to me that he may have seduced you back then. Did he? Just curious - my continuing study of human nature. I wish you well. Peace, love and happiness and all the good stuff...........from Liz in California
No he didn't Liz; he was an absolute gentleman, kind and decent and well mannered. I'd have been flattered by anyone showing an interest in me at that age - or any age.
That was JS's job - as well as all the other DJs - to hang out with the audience. Remember, Jimmy Saville has never been proved guilty of any of the allegations of sexual conduct. I haven't read any allegations that he seduced men - JK was 21 by the time EGTTM came out - no 'spring chicken'
I was 20, actually, Gnomo, and treated as the "baby" of the pop scene by my friends who were just a year or two older (Lennon, Jagger etc).
I still regard myself as a "spring chicken" though others might call me a "broody cock".
I suppose in the 60's 20yr olds were considered young. Were you ever 'perved up' by any of these old BBC /pop managers - or will you leave those facts for your posthumous, reveal-all biography (which I hope is ready and written)
The autobiography 65 My Life So Far reveals all, Gnomo; sadly nobody ever "perved me up"… even my dear friend Brian Epstein who once, very stoned at 4 in the morning when I collapsed into the seat next to him, shirtless, after dancing away, said "you know Jonathan, you've probably got the best body in the music world" - then adding "pity about the face". I roared with laughter as he apologised profusely.
