TOPIC: Manchester food

Manchester food 11 Years, 3 Months ago
Unexpectedly hilarious. Two quite ghastly chefs try to bring Michelin starred grub to the North. They are bound to fail.
Hilarious caricatures (but real people) of that strange breed - Northerners, with those flat accents (though one chef was Scouse). A magnificent woman who only eats smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and her rather sweet husband with an open mind but closed marriage.
The French maitre d' who quit in tears and predicted doom and gloom (I suspect he's right).
The terrible food (oyster fed on beetroot does not work). The utterly hilarious Mancunian millionaire.
This show will run and run (but neither restaurant will).

Incidentally.... plates at £160 each??!! Reminded me of the marvelous plate I had in an Italian restaurant a couple of years ago (I did write about it here at the time) which had a little twirling dent in it for spaghetti. Terribly clever and original.

I'd quite like to buy one of them, but not at £160 each!

Rogan run's one of our favourite restaurants, L'Enclume in Cartmel. We've often eaten there and the food is wonderful. If anybody is up in Cumbria during the summer, it's well worth a visit.

Ever been sworn at by him Dixie? Yes I gather he has two Michelin stars there but the look of his tasting menu at The French did less for me than for the bald man with the appalling wife!

Mr King, Is this a television show? Or are you just on a drunken rampage in Manchester?

Still great entertainment. I have to say, both chefs make food that looks exactly like the stuff I avoid like the plague when I'm abroad. And Giles Coren, unlike his Dad, is not someone I admire.

But ever played poker with Victoria Coren? She's knocking them dead in Europe and a more pleasant watch on TV, in my opinion......other opinions are available
