deciding that the voiceless should not necessarily have a voice if their voice is used maliciously, foolishly or unwisely.

Ramifications for Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia.

Already we've seen Twits fined in court.

I've said since it started that this "free voice" aspect of the Internet was a weapon of the devil. What I meant was - massive damage can be caused by allowing gossips and fools, who used to whisper over the garden fence, getting a wider audience.

It happened then - witch burning etc. It's happened now, with the drab little minds editing and commenting, not researching facts properly, farming spite and bile. Those many nasty, evil or just plain stupid voices getting accorded power. It will end in tears and has already pushed people to suicide. From the openly nasty trolls to the slippery, subtle ones who tweak here and intentionally blur the lines there... evil, wicked and bringing our species to its knees (if not pushing it over that cliff).

What they don't realise (no brains) is that they will fall over too, like the lemmings they are.

I've always said it....the new 'social media' has created millions of Poison Pen Letter authors.

But will it change ?

only if a few courts - as they have done in some countries, France , Italy, Australia- accept that Twit, Facebook , Google etc are co-publishers of libels.

Some cases before the courts now- we will see what happens. the main thing of course is Google's listings- if you can get them removed the nutters & haters are screaming in the wind.

thank you JK even tho I've now read it in a dozen news sites

very interesting...big case coming up in Adelaide as an academic friend of mine takes on Google who have pulled every possible legal trick in the book to delay and have now pissed off the judge.

they really are a dreadful lot and despite this Spanish chap's great victory Google will delay and frustrate each and every person trying to do same.

Until a court finally cracks down on them hard. May as well, the bastards pay little tax.

It will have some effect on internet forums like this one and others which share many articles and
gossip about news stories with often varied opinions.
It's fine to stamp down on "evil trolls" but the ramifications for all is concerning.
This COULD be much bigger than taking down stuff requested by people.

Mixed feelings on this - some old stories are in the public interest. Will this mean that MWT will be able to demand stories of his alleged past dealings to be deleted?

I think it is a fascinating situation..and yes MWT could demand his blackmail trial be removed but it will also affect the ghastly David Ickes and nutbag Bill Maloneys of the world with their horrible and spiteful dribble..

HOWEVER... from experience Google will make each and every claimant jump through endless hoops . believe me after speaking to a lawyer who has won 2 libel trials against them he says they are the most rapacious organisation he has dealt with : they throw a fortune at litigation hoping to wear down litigants.

and as they pay virtually no tax on billions in income, they can

Agreed, Foz ... it will be those with something to hide that want their history erased !

The Spanish man - who had his house repossessed - may well be in a better financial position NOW but if YOU were lending him money wouldn't you be very interested in the fact that he was a bad payer previously?

poor ITK still doesn't get Capitalism does he?

last month I went to a charity bash at a sumptuous home owned by "Aussie Home Loans" John Symons. He's been bankrupt in spectacular fashion now twice but spent the last 10 years building up an immense fortune giving out home loans and financed by....the very big banks that lost money before.

this poor Spanish sod is evening out the playing field. There are plenty of ways of checking out someone you may want to do business with but the net isn't one.

Check out Youtube- full of (false) accusations accusing people of being mind controlled Satanists pedo ring murderers.
