Media coverage of these ghastly appalling Savile "crimes"... 11 Years, 1 Month ago
What worries me is that nobody, nobody asks the questions "Could these claims be imagined or made up? Could some be exaggerated or due to times changing and in an era when men pinched buttocks which can't have existed? Could the media publicity provoke adaptation of memory? Are there many two year olds who remember things 50 years later? Is it just co-incidence that so many crimes took place "on BBC premises"? Should be all laugh with disbelief when Edwina Currie says "we never had a single complaint"? ".

I don't suggest any of these things. I have no knowledge of whether or not the claims are all true, all false or all combinations of both. But I find it bizarre that media coverage assumes we, the viewers, listeners and readers, are expected to accept them all without question and that they, the media, don't feel inclined to balance out the reporting.

I suspect it's a) because it's a good story and b) because he's dead. And c) because they are lazy and incompetent.

It's getting more and more farcical. Absolutely anyone who claims anything seems to be added to the total. It'll total about 10,000 by the end of the year if they go on like this. And there's clearly an incredible fear amongst journalists and broadcasters to even meekly raise the issue of verification. How they think this nonsense will help real victims is a mystery.

JK made a excellent point about Savile we just don't know, Jim has kicked the bucket so obviously he cannot go on trail.

The thing that puzzles me most about all these allegations against celebrities - most of them living - is that if they are all made up, then why have they only chosen a very small percentage of celebrities to pick on? Is it because he was a children's entertainer and had a beard, did he look like a weirdo you'd want your children to avoid in the park, was he always hanging out at a teenage disco etc, or is just that they are all telling the truth?

In the case of Rolf, none of the accusers know each other, and they all live in different parts of the country and the world. Have they all met in an online chat room called celeb compensation and concocted their stories together?

You believed you friend's story about what a well-known publicist did to their daughter, and even advised that she went to the authorities...
