I warned there was an explosion of this when I was diagnosed 10 years ago. I blame our lifestyle in the 60s and 70s.

My friend has Type 2 - and recently got an Insulin Pump which has greatly reduced the drudgery, as it automatically injects the correct doseage.

About the size of a small mobile phone, it is attached to her belt and retails at c£3k. However, she got it free - on the NHS.

Without even asking - and with no means testing, or whatever...

It's due mainly to the amount of hidden sugars in food - bread being the worst offender.
My dad was diagnosed at 46, having got the Ever Increasing 'middle-age spread' 10/15 years earlier. I found myself speeding along the same road (weight gain, fatigue, fungal problems) despite being very physically active until last Spring - I tried the 'anti-Candida' diet (no bread, no sweet stuff, no processed sugars) and the weight fell off. By last Christmas I was back to the shape I was at 20 - and this was done without cutting out the weekly fish & chips, the occasional night on the beer etc. I just stayed awy from bread, cereals and sweet sugary stuff. Have had chocolate in moderation since Christmas and everything is fine - have stayed away from bread though (barring a bit of Naan with a curry).
Feed the body with sugar and glucose and that is all that will be burned off day to day.

My doctor wants me to eat sensibly or go on insulin...I told him death was preferable to both.
