TOPIC: What are British "values" ?
#116226
In The Know (but not this time)

What are British "values" ? 11 Years, 1 Month ago
Does a Chinese take-away count?
Or a visit to an Indian restaurant?
I suppose a kebab is out of the question?

Nice idea ... but I feel they are digging themselves into a hole by trying to categorise us.

British values are about freedom, tolerance and respect for each other and the law. They're not about tolerance of intolerance.

there are 1.1M ex-Brits in Oz with another 4M first generation out of 24M.

plus the origins..Irish + Brits and the rest a conglomerate of over 100 other nationalities with an emphasis on Asian, Greek & Italian the largest.

So British influence dominates but mainly in the system of law and government with claims Christian 'values' but- they all work and live together harmoniously and racism is rare. Tolerance is a British value.

I put it down to basically a good lifestyle and racism only rares it's ugly head when times get tough and people look for simple reasons or someone to blame.

There was a Golden Dawn demo in Melbourne last week with few attending and bizarrely they were mainly Greeks protesting outside the Greek Consulate and claiming those who opposed them were racists.

(of course one British 'value' was to decimate the original inhabitants of a country they invaded as they did in Oz).

Spot on, hedda !

No one starves in the UK (unless they choose to use the money for their mobile phone !)

These "protestors" are simply hoping that if we "out" all foreigners that they can share the money they would have had - without doing a thing to earn it.

Its simply "scrounger" mentality.

(Of course they ALL forget that there would be no health service left !!!!)

Interesting study -

"People perceive race differently during an economic downturn, a recent study suggests, and become subconsciously more prejudiced"

An income for the drug companies, Andrew.

Where the NHS don't seem to investigate the cause, but do want to give you lots of pills. Pills that are full of dangerous side effects & lead doctors into giving more pills to treat the side effects of the pills they gave you in the first place. Water retention pills that will give you diabetes, if taken year in, year out. That's why there's been a big increase in type 2 diabetes. Pills? Throw them away.
