Sad news - Lynsey de Paul died yesterday of a brain haemorrhage at just 64.
I hope that had nothing to do with the fact that she'd spent much of the past 2 years incandescent with rage about Yewtree, in particular the treatment of her close friend of 40-odd years DLT.
Clearly - in terms of visuals and songwriting autonomy at least - a huge influence on the celebrated Kate Bush but evidently these days that has been forgotten. Great songwriter, and whilst she only had a few hits over a 5 years span Sugar Me is one of the most inventive hit singles of the 70s
Didn't realise she was also passionate about women standing up for themselves physically - she knew what on about then, and yet still backed The Hairy Cornflake.
A much underated and understated star. I was too young to remember her early career (I heard sugar me for the first time yesterday). However I fondly remember Rock Bottom with Mike Moran, it was such a shame that it just missed out on a eurovision win (uk came 2nd 13 times).
I often got her mistaken for Stephanie de Sykes (purely because she had the de in her name).
