TOPIC: Conditions in prison
#122120
Conditions in prison 10 Years, 9 Months ago
Watching the arguments for a disabled prisoner in South Africa, during my time inside I was most disturbed by those who were disabled, old and many senile - almost universally officers and inmates worked over and above the call of duty to assist, rather than facilities in the prisons. Yet again, the basic decency of human beings rallied to help. Many "screws" worked overtime without pay and gave up personal time to contribute. And many other inmates offered to push wheelchairs, clean up messes etc.

my pal the ex-copper despairs that all the psychiatric hospitals in NSW were closed down and the land sold off to developers.

Prisons are now are full of the mentally disturbed and prison officers police spend valuable time attending to the deranged.

I agree with your point, Hedda, but "attending to the deranged" had me howling with laughter.
I want to put in the "job description" part of my passport.

The PC disabled advocates never really got round to old underground stations,or prisons....obviously charity only begins at certain homes.

Ok Wandsworth.
your opened up when they feel like it
Excersize in the yard stops if one drop of rain falls.
canteen prices are high than the shops
phone calls cost more than in the outside world.
Those who play up get more association than Mr I do my time quietly.
SOTP is a tick box excersize overseen by people with very little life skills.
drugs and mobile phones very easy to get hold of and come in mainly via prison officers FACT not visits.
one govenor would not accept the names of prison officers bring in as it was his watch.
piss tests mainly carried out on the good guys, random testing , hmmm officers not making sure clean piss taken and not left in plastic bags for a dirty test to be passed.
constantly wrong information held on inmates and not corrected when pointed out.
constantly taking inmates over late for visits.

Spinning cells of the good inmates, supposed again to be random.

Yes you may be in there for a reason but basic work not being carried out by prison officers Some are good, some are very good but most are bully boys.
I could go on.
