Peter Lewis, the head of children's services at Somerset County Council, has been sacked.
Lewis had been paid £318,500 a year, one of the highest paid council officers in England, while his deputy received £275,000 - a cost of almost £1million in the 18 months they have been employed.
The official announcement from Somerset says that the sacking follows a series of disappointing reports into the performance of the council’s children’s services. What was not revealed is that Somerset County Council is the first target in the campaign by parents in their fight back against the draconian measures used by Social Services to seize their children.
