I do understand the desire of survivors to see an inquiry that's genuinely thorough and independent, but I'm a bit bemused by the media's disinclination to question, however politely, their apparent belief that THEY should be choosing the person to head the inquiry. Genuinely independent inquiries aren't controlled by one group. Yet time and again, there's some representative turning up on the TV news to say why they don't want X but would be happy with Y. That's not really a good idea, even (if they thought about it coolly and calmly) from their own point of view, so it would be wise for them to take a step back.
