We can't speak here with authority because the article does not give enough facts.However there must have been enough evidence for the CPS to take over the private prosecution....and how many men commit suicide over a false accusation?

Perhaps this tragic case may get politicians to look at the whole system of prosecutions of sexual cases?

It is absolutely time for a total review on sex crimes, their prosecution and the legal process. It was inevitable that these kinds of things would develop as the false allegations industry exploded. Do we really care about old historical offences? Should the law simply reject accusations without evidence? It occupies police (the majority of whom hate these situations) and costs millions in court costs and prison expenses.

The time has come to tighten up the laws. Complain immediately, whilst there is evidence. Or seek psychiatric assistance otherwise.

On January 4 last year Miss de Freitas told police she had been drugged and raped by a male associate shortly before Christmas 2012.
That's a lot faster than historic accusations, possibly less than two weeks.

But JK is correct- CSA should investigate also false accusers & the profitable victim / survivor industry.

note what father said that the daughter was "getting on with life".

the CSA inquiry will be a shambles (see latest Anna Raccoon on Australian "whistleblower") and the victim industry is likely to hear some unpalatable truths at which point they will take their bat & ball and go home

It is odd how when an accused man kills himself it is proof of his guilt, but for a woman it confirms her innocence.
