TOPIC: The big Strictly question
#123342
The big Strictly question 10 Years, 8 Months ago
How on earth has Judy Murray lasted beyond the first week? She has no sense of rhythm, dance or grace whatsoever. I'm sure she's a nice enough lady but she simply has no dance ability at all. I think actually the worst mover in all the contests of every year (and I include John Sergeant and Anne Widdecombe).

I deliberately didn't click on your Spoiler this week, Pru, in the hopes that the punters would finally get rid of the wooden plank but I'm infuriated that Judy Moribund is still in it. They might mistake her for scaffolding in Blackpool.

Alexei Sayle has a very convincing answer for "the big Strictly question":

"... the propaganda role of the talent show is to promote the idea of simplicity over complexity, of popularity over talent, of banality over genuine invention because complexity encourages critical thought and critical thought is the enemy of authoritarianism. Or to employ another quote beloved of radicals, it was my distant relation film-maker Albert Mayles who stated: “Tyranny is the removal of nuance.”

...

Now, obviously, dance is not revolutionary in itself; art cannot directly affect politics, and, in fact, politics doesn’t seem able to directly affect politics. The audience from Giselle at London’s Royal Opera House are not going to storm into the streets and seize the telephone exchange no matter how elegant and authentic the performance, but what the celebrities who appear on Strictly are doing is taking part in the ongoing cultural war on critical thinking. Just as in as in George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four where “War is Peace”, “Freedom is Slavery” and “Ignorance is Strength” so in Strictly ugliness is beauty, prancing is dancing and Judy Murray is Ginger Rogers. The end result is that when people are confronted by the truth they cannot see it because they have been so confused by lies."

Mark wasn't great tonight but Frankie was super. They are still my favourites. I can't see the love for Pixie and thought Sunetra was bound to be dance off and out - let's see.

I've always been bemused by Pixie. For me she has no charm or grace at all; is simply a technical dancer like Mariah Pariah has always been a session singer. Frankie is great but my tip remains Mark who has the most natural grace and lovely long legs (like Abbey last year). I have a thing about long legs (inherited mine from my Daddy, according to my Mum).
