TOPIC: Female "bishops" ?
#123867
In The Know (as always)

Female "bishops" ? 10 Years, 8 Months ago
what next .... ?

Transgender bishops ?

alcoholic bishops ?

druggie bishops ?

.................. so they "fit in" and can "relate" to their parishioners ?????

What a joke - a church which dumps any "principle" that happens to be unpopular in favour of desperately trying to make itself seem relevant.

I applaud your use of the endangered 'female' word. Why is 'woman' used so much these days as an adjective? I know one can probably go back to medieval times for such a use, but the gender inconsistency makes no sense to me these days: no one would say 'man bishop' (or 'man politician' or whatever) but the news reporters all now dutifully say 'woman bishop'. There's nothing remotely derogatory about 'female' as an adjective, so the coy resistance to using it bemuses me.

My friend Bob/Linda is about to have her 'bits' removed...perhaps gainful employment in the service of The Lord is now an option?

You're not going to join your favourite pin up girl in a dosage of Roman Popery are ye Mr Know?

Bishops, priests, carers, doctors, nurses, teachers, cardinals, monks, musicians, maintenace people, road sweepers, toilet attendants and all inspirational, well meaning and hardworking/industrious people - can/should be of any gender.

And even those of us who will never be able to carry out any task ...

"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says." First letter to the Corinthians

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." First letter to Timothy.

I think St Paul knew what he was talking about !
