TOPIC: Ched Evans.

Ched Evans. 10 Years, 8 Months ago
This is a far bigger problem than it appears. It's a reflection of changing attitudes towards sexuality, of the different aspects of meanings (is "rape" just one thing?), of society's increasing nastiness and vindictiveness (both sides - the victim has suffered too), of media, police and law (the only thing that matters is "a good story").

I agree.

The very vindictive campaign conducted against Evans (who I had never heard of before)with celebrities jumping onboard was extremely vicious and a very nasty example of the bullying of one ex-convict.

this was mob rule at it's worst and an obvious witch hunt against a sole ex-prisoner when probably dozens were released the same day, some who could have committed far worse crimes.

It's a symptom, and I believe a very British symptom of how British traditional fairness has been overturned and the loudest bullies are now tolerated no mater how hysterical their claims.

Evans could have chosen to announce that he was as guilty as sin (whilst not believing a word of it) for a peaceful life, the mob would have accepted his "rehabilitation" no matter how phoney, and that just shows how moronic many have become.

And not one of those screeching "role model" have bothered to investigate how society got to the point where men kicking a ball on a field which requires no intellectual ability , should be regarded as role models.

Having worked predominately with the young & foolish in 2012, I can confirm that a nation has indeed been groomed and there are flocks of young men just waiting to have their collars felt at some point.
The toxic media culture of 'Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!' - where tattoos equate to 'expression', the music is loud, unnatural and repetitive, where females are the ones on a tidal wave of promiscuity and the lads all so keen to do what is expected of them - so clearly signposted in neon letters for those with their heads out of the sand on TOWIE, Geordie Shore etc etc etc places huge importance on hedonism and fun, and on 'fitting in'.
Those young people aren't thinking straight because they work not by time-honed intuition but by specific instruction - and the media isn't instructing anybody to watch their backs, because girls just wanna have fun and fun means binge drinking, recreational drugs and gratuitous (yet strangely passionless) sex. In this environment - where everything is, like, a laugh, yeah? - the lads can't believe their luck and the lasses want to have their cake and eat it, just like the women on telly.

Chris, What a fascinating comment! It seems to express a deep truth about our culture. Obviously it reflects your personal experience. Would you consider expanding on it?

It reads like the conclusion to something longer. Is there any chance you could say more about the grooming of the nation, the toxic media culture and the increased risk to men of having their collars felt, while the lasses want to have their cake and eat it? Also, how have things changed over the decades?

What about a blog post? For all I know, you may have written the book already.

I wonder how long it will be for victims of false allegations to band together and fight back against the social stupidity of those who don't believe such things exist? Karma is so strong these days. It takes very little imagination to see that Heaton man accused of rape and prosecuted. If found guilty - no more Beautiful HouseSouth Martins music? Hearts will break.

most definitely a future class action there, perhaps against the CPS.

some enterprising law firm should take note.
