TOPIC: Gordon Brown.

I always thought he was a pretty good Chancellor - much of the disaster wasn't his fault. Not as good as Ken Clarke but decent. Not a great PM - bad image (media controls). Superb speech on the Scottish Independence issue.

I always thought he was a decent sort, and he is lucky to have a lovely supportive wife in Sarah. In fact, he would make a very acceptable dinner companion. But, I think he was out of his depth as both Chancellor and PM. We should have been investing during his time as Chancellor, not selling the family silver (gold) at a time when we didn't need to.

Brown is acknowledged by most as the best Labour peacetime Chancellor.

Not least, for making the great decision not to join the European single currency.

Would have faired better as PM, if the timing was better - Blair left at exactly the ideal moment, for him...

He's not so popular north of the border. Insisted he would guarantee the vow/pledge would be implemented pre referendum and then decides to bugger off. Didn't he screw the pensioners in favour of the bankers? Good riddance you wonky eyed twat.

Very interesting piece in The Times today by a former Blair script writer.
