TOPIC: Charlie Hebdo - mistake
#126413
Charlie Hebdo - mistake 10 Years, 6 Months ago
The front cover should feature Jesus Christ illustrating this is NOT a religious problem but a problem with mad people. Likewise the German anti-Islam march. Every time someone links killers to pretend motive does the terrorists a favour. Killing people has nothing to do with the claimed reason. Mad people do it because they are mad.

Agree.

If publishing a picture of the prophet incited this in the first place - I don't thin publishing 3 million more will help "solve" the problem !
It's rather like sticking two fingers up at the opposition.

I don't think we should ever "give in" to terrorists - but at least we ought to discuss and listen, to try and find out what the real problem is.

A look at history tells us -

We had to talk to the IRA eventually.
And the Yankers ran away from the Viet Cong.
Propping-up the Shah lead to a thirty year (ongoing) rift with Iran.
The ANC and Sandinistas also won.

Not classy at all. Not funny at all. Not sensible at all ("you didn't get us all. Here we are. Try again")

Tomorrow's new Charlie Hebdo publication will show the difference - between freedom of speech and incitement

It (CH) has crossed the line - giving insulted and ridiculed fanatics credibility, and sympathy

Making fun - in such a strong/negative/sarcastic way - may have serious consequences for us all

I agree,SP. Carrying on as usual is one thing but deliberate provocation another.

An interesting viewpoint and one with which I don't entirely agree. Whilst supporting freedom of speech I dislike the new Twittersphere intensely, reckoning that it gives a voice to people who should not be heard. That's the problem with it; misuse of the privilege. I'm sorry, Hitler was NOT right in telling people to kill Jews and Gays. Charlie Hebdo was NOT right stoking the fires of mad people and directly leading to 5 innocent people dying. There has to be responsibility.

"C" agrees with us -

news.sky.com/story/1411409/ex-mi6-boss-w...-not-to-insult-islam

(I'm not sure that I've had both the Pope and the head of MI6 on my "side" before !)

We expect respect from people who move here, but fail to respect their customs and beliefs (and frequently invade their countries when it suits us).

.... yet we are surprised at the backlash ??????
