Well those bronze statues LOOK like the work of my favourite artist - they are beautiful; but what worries me is not whether or not they were made by the great man but why, oh why, do newsreaders and commentators insist on calling him MICHAELANGELO when Italians pronounce it Meekel and he was Italian?

I do not know - except that his contemporary, da Vinci, was much more accomplished in so many sectors of that fascinating era. Although MA was also a poet.

A period when artists were astronomers, scientists, navigators - as well as businessmen, clerics and politicians.

Who often married into royalty...

I agree that if it is someone's name it is nice to pronounce it correctly, but those who insist on the "proper" pronunciation for everything foreign tend to come across as wassocks. Enter code here Please note: although no board code and smiley buttons are shown, they are still usable.

And if anyone knew about beauty it was MichelAngelo! One of the reasons I adore his work is that he clearly understood the beauty of the human body.
