Selma - my second favourite film of the year 10 Years, 5 Months ago
Splendid movie; very well made with one of my favourite actors Tom Wilkinson playing Johnson - excellent film - my Top 5 now goes - at 5) Grand Budapest Hotel; 4) the Turing film; 3) the Hawking film; 2) Selma and 1) Mr Turner.

Not necessarily (I hated Lincoln) but you're right, this has been quite a year for good biopics (only Grand B in my top 5 wasn't for this year!). I plan to watch Boyhood before the Awards and Whiplash has been strongly tipped to me.
A lot of Selma brought back memories. We "entertainment" types in the 60s really fought for causes - civil rights (remember Selma Alabama in Eve of Destruction?).
Anti semitism. Gay rights (we won that too). The right to experiment with drugs/stimulants (although I didn't personally partake- not even cigarettes). These days it's false allegations although nobody seems to care much about that.

Just watched the Mark Kermode review - he revealed why they couldn't use I HAVE A DREAM - funnily enough that was one of the things I loved about the movie. It avoided the obvious.
