TOPIC: BAFTAs

BAFTAs 10 Years, 5 Months ago
So who will win what? I'd reckon Eddie as Hawking is a certainty. Best Film? For me, Mr Turner, not even nominated. Of the nominees I think Theory of Everything. Please not Boyhood, a terrible superficial film for the Twitter generation. I loved Grand Budapest Hotel and hope it wins many prizes. I haven't seen Birdman yet. Best actress? Probably Mrs Hawking (don't know her name). Worst performance? Charles Dance playing Charles Dance in the Turing film (can't remember its name).

The important award is Best Cinematography. Mr Turner by a mile.

Well what can I say, Dick Pope (and Mike Leigh) you was robbed. If you've seen Mr Turner I'm sure you agree.

I was pleased to see a couple of nominations for '71, which I'd forgotten about but it was terrific.

Eddie as Hawking totally deserves it; even more than Tim Spall although Mr Turner is the better film.

And Best Film? Boyhood. For me, the worst.

Delighted that the ultimate honour went to my personal favourite film maker, Mike Leigh. I think he's brilliant.

you summed up Boyhood - superficial and a very bad US attempt with good actors looking for 'integrity'

Glad you agree Hedda; most seem to have fallen for the hype.

Interesting how Mike Leigh, who NEVER has a script for his films, illustrated why by delivering his speech from a script SO badly!

Problems with the clips (choice and length) used in the show - all far too short. Only the Grand Budapest clips were the right ones. I could have chosen short sequences from Vera Drake, Secrets and Lies and Mr Turner that would have forced every single viewer to rush to see the films.

So, am I wrong about Boyhood? If you've seen it, let me know your thoughts.
