Mrs Thatcher became the leader of the Tory party and started the fight to save Britain who was then "the sick man of Europe".

Her flagship policy - flog off the Council houses - was a major success and is about to be repeated, with the Coalition willing to "give away" Council houses to dolers who come off benefits and get a job.

I liked Maggie personally a lot (read all about her in my books) and admired her financial policies (Ken Clarke was a very under rated Chancellor) though I disagreed with most of her social policies (and told her - she listened). So one minute council houses are so scarce that people with a spare bedroom or a dining room have to leave it and go and live in a hovel, and the next they are so abundant we can give them away?
