Lunch with Mr and Mrs Raccoon 10 Years, 5 Months ago
Went to Norwich for a lunch with Anna and Graham. I point you at her highly intelligent (as always) post on Old Lags.

and her piece on old lags. Honestly I've lost all respect for British justice. It's a laughing stock.

Perhaps it's time for another country, perhaps one of the old colonies, to start pointing the finger and laughing.

there just isn't the climate of hysteria in Australia even though there is a Royal Commission into institutional abuse.

No claims of "pedo rings" etc..much calmer.

I genuinely put it down to sunshine and a good standard of living even if you are on the dole - there are great social services and a livable social security.

Given that there are nearly 3 million Brits and at least 5 million second generation Brits/Irish/Scots it cannot be a national trait.....the compensation angle surely is a driving force in the UK.

You'd think that would make them better placed to question the British justice system. But perhaps they prefer to bow to it. The media seems happy to sing from the same hymn sheet (e.g. "a mural by jailed paedophile entertainer..."). Can't help but wonder how they're going to handle things when the time comes.
