I absolutely love this Pope and why wouldn't I ..
he's a comrade & fellow traveler. Also the right man at the right time

A grand chap - but its sad and silly that the Catholic Church insists on giving its top job to someone approaching 80, time after time.

Particularly when radical change is required regarding the laws of celibacy and the ongoing problem of paedophile priests.

No sooner has a Pope commenced appropriate action - and he is gone. Or retired, like the last one.

Yes - sorry. I think I'm hoping that someone will explain the logic/rationale.

Well as I think I said last time, I'm rapidly thinking electing older leaders is a good idea as they lack personal ambition and have more wisdom from experience.

Fair enough - but do you not suspect that a man of this calibre, intellect, ability and accumulated experience - aged c55 - could achieve an awful lot more with the likelihood of a much longer time in the job.

Possibly but he probably doesn't exist and, if he did, he might quite fancy amassing a fortune for his old age or his family (if he's not celibate).

Maybe the point of hiring elderly people is to deliberately avoid change?

Was this the same Pope who, in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo killings, said that 'if you insult my mother, you expect s punch'...

Yes that was one of the many things that made me like him. May not be politically (or religiously) correct but very human.
