I'm watching Ned Sherrin's Alf Garnett Saga this evening. The film fascinates me because it should be awful, but it works to a certain level.

I caught half an hour of Comic/Sports/Sex relief. It was mainly heart tugging films about people dying or funny sketches that might have warranted 20 seconds but lasted 5 minutes. The James Bond spoof (Bond has a silly voice but his butch voice is dubbed by Alan Carr - someone thought that was hilarious) was quite enough actually. It epitomised the humour level of CR - "wouldn't it be funny to make Bond speak like a faggot? Not politically correct but we can get away with it if…" I'd like to host a Not Comic/Sports/Sex Relief night on Ch4 at the same time showing all the great TV viewers may have missed from the year before, from all sources, and - as a side break - briefly asking viewers to contribute to a separate fund if they prefer this to the crap over on BBC1. We could save lives.
