Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen 10 Years, 1 Month ago
Neil Sedaka closed this week's Sounds of the Sixties with his enchanting song, the lyrics of which today would be considered paedophile and would probably earn him 7 years inside.
What has happened to our species over the past five decades? Why have we come to assume the worst in human nature? Whatever happened to innocence, purity, love?
Well, a lot can be blamed on the absurd attitude to homosexuality, as rife then as it is now but totally illegal when Neil wrote that song and illegal for anyone of 16 or 17 until two days after my arrest in 2000. Which is, of course, why all the claims of "paedophilia" in the Westminster/Dolphin Square fiasco are about gay sex. There was, of course, no heterosexual paedophilia until Savile. It's the lack of brain cells in modern humanity that worries me most.

Then there's poor old Ringo. He's never had that many hit songs to sing so it must have hurt to drop 'You're Sixteen' from his set. (FYI, Daily Mail and MWT: many commercial stations used to play this song, not just the Beeb, so maybe have a shufti at Capital and Co, eh?)

And Rod Stewart and this one
Good morning little schoolgirl
Good morning little schoolgirl
Can I come home with, can I come home with you?
Tell your mama and your papa
I once was a schoolboy too
Sometimes I don't know what
Sometimes I don't know what
What in the world, what in the world to do?
Oh I don't want to hurt your feelings
Or even get mad at you at all
I'm gonna buy me an airplane
I'm gonna buy me an airplane
Fly right over, fly right over town
If I don't find my baby
Ain't gonna put my airplane down
Come on little schoolgirl
Come on little schoolgirl
Can I come home with, can I come home with you?
Tell your mama and your papa
I once was a schoolboy too
