The Defence of the Ashes 18 Years, 5 Months ago

Squared eyed from a nights cricket, I return to the breakfast table with a sinking feeling that the Ashes are already going back to the Australians. There was nothing wrong with the English performance on day one, bowling was only slightly wayward. They are simply up against the best team in the world, and even a turnaround and win will not change my view on this.
When England won the Ashes nearly two years back, it is a little discussed fact that the fixtures were set in an order to fit in with the English style of play in mind, to use the home advantage further.
Assuming the Australian cricket board have done similar, which is completely legal this could be a whitewash.
A great event though, great atmostphere, I have been such a fan for years, I rarely sleep when the England team are playing, and after seeing the young team emerge from the duldrums, I would hate to think they have peaked, sadly I think they have.
