Dave Mount 18 Years, 5 Months ago
A letter on ITV's teletext today referred to the death of Dave Mount, former drummer with Mud. I've not heard anything about this, and a google search produced nothing. Has anyone got any information?

I read on a MUD message board that Dave died on 3rd December this year, but I haven't been able to confirm this. I'd have thought that the death of yet another 70s pop legend would mean that the whole universe needed to be re-aligned. If it's true then I can't believe that it's hardly been given a mention.

I'm beginning to think this is one of those internet rumours, as suffered by Paul Weller et al.

I did learn one thing in my searches, that Dave Mount was in an episode of West Wing, called Holy Night - according to IMDB.

Tragicly it's true Dave was on a life support machine at St Heliers Hospital, Carshalton. This was turned off at 12 noon Saturday 2nd and he passed away at 6pm that evening. A sad loss. Our thoughts are with his family.

Dave had recently become a supporter and friend of Purley John Fisher Rugby Club. The notice to members reads:

"Sadly on the evening of Saturday 2nd December Dave Mount passed away. Dave was an avid supporter of the club and never missed an opportunity to watch Ruairi, his stepson and James, his close friend, turn out for the teams. He was even grooming Alex (Munch) and Fraser to follow in Ruari's footsteps! Those of you lucky enough to meet him will remember his sense of humour, passion for the game and the pride he obviously had for all his boys.
Dave will be sorely missed and our deepest sympathies go out to Zoe, Ruairi, Munch, Callum and Fraser."

I gather he took his own life but many of us are baffled as to why. Despite a few problems with his current marriage, he seemed genuinely happy and was very popular.

Good bloke. Sad outcome

I looked up quite a lot of older musicians I have worked with this morning, in the past, and found a website written about many of my elder colleagues.
On it were written many unanswered questions in the "what happened at this stage of their career? " style, the poor webmaster is going to wish he had not asked anyone! I sent him over 1500 words on factual mistakes on his research, very politely I might add, I would not have done it had my name been not included in one of the band line ups, I have to say.
I don`t like being called "vocalist and bass player unknown"!

Signing off, "no hits still" UK

Although a year has gone by since Dave's passing, sadly I knew nothing about it and the circumstances are most
distressing!
Dave worked for me after his time as a kitchen salesman and before he moved in to Insurance. I had a small London based advertising agency and he worked there with me for a short while.
Dave was a great guy, friendly and good fun. Although I only knew him a short time, I am very saddened by his all to early passing and will remember him fondly. My sympathies go out to those he has left behind.

Hello,I only found out about Dave Mount's death, yesterday.Very sad!Could anybody tell me how he died?Did he take an overdose?I only met Dave a few times in the mid 80s(when I used to see Rob and Ray from Mud play in pubs)I called at Dave's flat one Sunday afternoon. He let me in and was very friendly-he didn't mind me calling at all.I took a photo and got him to sign a photo. He was going out and he gave me a lift to the nearest tube station. He said that Dave Lee Travis had a lot of Mud stuff on video.I lost contact with Rob and Ray and so I didn't meet Dave again.Once again,I am very sad by his death(almost a year ago now)Does anyone know why he should take his life?Very sad!!

Anyone know how he died? Some reports say suicide, others talk of an illness. Anyone know the truth?

Hi Andy! Remember me? We met once when I was in London when I was there with a friend (way back in '83) and we also met when you stayed in Brussels and we went to the fair with another friend and her dad and brother. Like to get in touch again?

I just heard about Dave's death on the BBC who mention ed the 'late' Les Gray and Dave'the drummer'.Dave worked with me as kitchen designer when I was manager at Magnet's in Croydon about 1988. We used to go with all the lads to the Wheelwright's Arms in South Croydon, and Dave would always find an excuse to get on the stage and entertain everybody-still the showman. He was a great bloke with a great sense of humour. Sorely missed.

Hi,

You may never see this but I was googling and just found out about Dave Mount today. How sad. I used to work with him at your little ad agency in London. Remeber..Wendy. I spend quite a bit of time with Dave out of work. Having a glass of wine and a chat at lunchtime and I introduced him and Zoe and Ruaridh to our favourite Greek restarant in Notting Hill - Cleopatras - and we spent a fw great evenings there till the early hours with my mad flatmates. He was such a nice guy and listened to my babbling with patience and good humour. He was mad about his family and had many a good story to tell about the MUD days. Realy sad to hear about this. Hope you are well Mel and all is good with you.

Back in 1985, Les told me that Dave was selling kitchens and "Doing very well for himself". Until reading these later comments I found nobody who could confirm that he sold kitchens. I was always told "No, he worked in insurance." so it's cool to now have a couple of people confirming it.

I cherish the recording I made (from the TV) of Dave in the studio during "Bring back the Christmas Number One." I guess that was his last TV appearance, and final recording.

Today 13.9.2014. Shocked at finding out my old childhood mate is dead. Dave and I first met in the church choir Mitcham surrey. As kids we used to do a paper round on Saturday night with the old butcher bikes with the evening standard and evening news. Dave and I used to ride around the houses shouting "classified all the football". Dave used to live with his mum and two sisters in Mount road Mitcham .To Dave and all his family my heart goes out to you all . Dave was one of the best, a great loss.Would like to have contact with his family. Lots to tell about when we were kids. My email address evan _grant @ hotmail .co.uk. Love you Dave rest in peace.
