The Full Christmas Day Food Post! 18 Years, 4 Months ago
Duck stuffed with mandarins and marinated in honey, crown roast of turkey, devils on horseback, roasties in goosefat, sprouts and carrots and cep and shallot gravy.(sadly the last of the Autumnal fungi)
Followed by Christmas pud with Tia Maria cream and a selection of cheeses.
To follow? A heckuva lot of washing up!
I really enjoyed cooking that lot though, my Mum thinks I should get a "proper job" in catering, sadly if I did this I would not have the time or money to create the dishes!
Why is it Mums allways want their kids to get a "real job?" I like this one Mum:dry:
I spotted a rather nice looking small French turkey - corn fed, very yellow and red (rather like a giant pheasant) - so I went for that and to my surprise it was delicious; juicy and tasty (the dog loved the leg too!).
I had a discussion with a fellow foodie, the other Sunday about corn fed birds before we went on a fungi foray. How on earth do they turn that yellow?
I eat a lot of corn at the end of summer and I don`t change colour at all!
Whilst I don`t doubt they are corn fed birds, I do think a bit of colouring is involved, that said, I do like my smoked haddock coloured, you can see the bones better, and you do get a choice these days.
Our dog has a "human food " ban, although she is desperate for the duck leg, it`s just too strong for her tummy with the marinade on it.
Food blowout continues..........(at Partners Parents)... 18 Years, 4 Months ago
....a hock of ham, the rest of the goose fat was given to my partners parents to make the potatoes, a salmon, garnished with prawns and watercress, a home made trifle, carrot cake and more cheese.
I am so full up, it`s ridiculous!
