JK, for me the most striking parallel of this horrific case of injustice with your own is not the time spent in prison for crimes which never took place, nor the fact that an innocent man was railroaded. What scares and disgusts me is the amount of personal malevolence of those in the injustice system who knew he was innocent. Often I think injustices and wrongful convictions result from 'system errors', from 'workload', from sheer screaming incompetence but here it is quite clear-for whatever reasons THEY were out to get the poor guy. I'm betting his appeal only finally succeeded because ,after 20 odd years, THEY had gone into retirement.

It’s not really got anything to do with justice or injustice. It is about power, ego and discrimination. Justice is only a small barrier to the unaccountable few who have the power to imprison those they personally detest because they just happen to hale from the wrong ethnic group, or they have the wrong skin colour, or they have the wrong sexuality, or because they are courageous enough to whistle-blow. Until the unaccountable few are made accountable, all of us I think would be wise to mistrust the motives of those empowered to tackle crime if ever we are unfortunate enough to have any dealings with them.
