Almost every computer in the world will have something "suspicious" on it - even if you have unwittingly clicked on a link and then switched it off as soon as you realised what it was.

Why do you think the police are so keen to "snatch" computers whenever they raid anywhere?

It's because they will almost certainly have some minor item to stick on you - even if the primary purpose of the raid proves to be entirely unwarranted.

A few years ago a book by Al Stewart called "The Internet Trap" touched on this very subject. It was just a short book of essays but made several good points.

I recall he also warned about how seemingly independent accusers, especially of celebrities, can have met each other via the internet. How accusations can be a way for obsessed fans to become forever a part of the celebrity's life.

I don't think many copies were sold because most people seemed to dismiss his concerns as unrealistic. The British Library probably has a copy.
