I must admit to having some sympathy with Andrew's views; although I can understand the point, after decades of persecution, I'm not a fan of these things; it's like promoting or employing women to improve some professions - only competence, skill and ability should matter. Likewise Zionists - pushing fairness to the other extreme due to ghastly anti semitism in the past does nobody any favours. Why have pride in being gay? We don't have pride in having blue eyes as opposed to brown or being right handed or left handed. Racism is absurd but celebrating racial differences is equally mad. Likewise sexuality.
I was under the impression that gay pride marches were less about being proud of an accident of birth and more about saying "you don't like us? well, tough luck, we're here".

What I do feel is important is stressing how appalling it was until quite recently (and many of the current PEED-DOUGH scandals are homophobic) to be gay. Totally illegal until 67; illegal for under 21s until late 90s.
