TOPIC: Prince Charles

Prince Charles 5 Years, 11 Months ago
I like the man. So, clearly, does Meghan. He took over my rooms at Trinity College, Cambridge in the Sixties. He talks a lot of sense. I think he'll make a great King. Good luck to him.

At least he is unlikely to make a holy show of her.

I do hope they can all laugh about it one day.

I went on a British Airway's junket from Sydney to Brisbane once to promote the Crown Jewels (or their copies) which were going to be exhibited.

It was a nightmare as the Brit Air flight was international so we had to take passports so a one hour trip took 3 hours. At Brisbane airport they had a great Prince Charles look-alike who carried out a Crown on a velvet cushion but he had forgotten his Charles' ears so it didn't quite work.

Then we were bused into a very nice 5 star hotel & for some reason joined a birthday party for the actor Dennis Waterman who after a few drinks decided I was a Paparazzi who had jumped out of a Perth shop window and frightened the life out of him..he wanted to punch me up but I put on a funny accent so he was OK.

I worked with Prince Charles about 5 years ago when he opened a huge housing development in Sydney. He toured the houses and apartments and in one small very nice modern terrace house which had the bedrooms downstairs and the living room & kitchen upstairs he said "what a sensible idea having an upstairs kitchen"..not sure he had ever seen one before.
He refused to pat a woman's corgi which was all dressed up in Union Jacks and when a gormless Rupert Murdoch/ News Ltd hackette asked an aide "when will he give his press conference?"..the aide looked at her snootily like a piece of garbage (which she was) & said "Royals don't give press conferences".

Impeccably dressed with a beautiful tailored suit & shoes, tie etc etc,

Universal approval it seems ITK. Not one newspaper agrees with you. Even the anti Royalists were impressed.

Constitutionally, albeit as vague as it is post-1688, the main public role of the Crown is to shut up, so I rather doubt old Charles, with the combination of his monumentally stupid views and his incredible arrogance, will prove a good mix at all as a monarch.

I think Vic that's right. His heart might be in the right place, but he needs to know when to shut up and get on with it. And no more spidery written memos.

I like Prince Charge because he speaks his mind and will not be a pushover. He will be a different kind of King, probably a bit like George third who also spoke his mind (even when not insane). He is more of a stickler for duty than some think, so there will not be too much of a change. He knows that one of the main strengths of this nation is the continuity which the Royal Family provides. Politicians come and go, and policies keep changing, but the Royal Family maintain strong links with the rest of the world beyond politics. I look forward to seeing Charles as King, when Her Majesty decides to vacate this reality ... which probably won't be until Philip does.

I still have an old 78 (rpm) of Dame Clara Butt singing God Save The King. It's bloomy awful but I'll drag it out from mothballs to mark the occasion.

They know how to maintain the defference, JK (to get the free tickets and access !).

Wait till the next Royal scandal ... like the black and ginger baby !
