We just need a public outcry - individual accountability; jail cops and CPS lawyers involved in perverting the course of justice.

I sometimes feel I have more readers than the national media! The reaction to this thread has been far greater than it was for the original piece in the paper.

the accused really has to do their own investigations which of course can be tricky when they may try and deal with the accuser.

This is fine for the wealthy or the intelligent- take Jim Davidson for example (who I never liked as a comedian).

Jim was actually warned not to investigate himself and present evidence to the police of his innocence.

He took a chance and indeed, police mendacity was exposed. When Jim demonstrated that not only was any civilian unable to gain access to the London Palladium and anyway, he wasn't appearing there when a false accuser claimed he was..the police reported this to that accuser who changed her story to a theatre some 100 miles from London.

Alas for this false accuser- Davidson didn't appear there when claimed either.

But police were determined as Jim surmises with their ridiculous arrest at Heathrow when he was returning to appear on Big Brother..with press releases sent out.

Police cannot be trusted. They only give up when their illegality will be exposed but even then, they face no punishment.

Until a false accuser launches a case, not of malicious prosecution but one of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, these disgraces will continue.
# and remember: when a private prosecution is launched, the CPS must examine it and take over the case if they believe there is a chance of a conviction.

And JK is correct: false accusers have no loyalty and it's possibly just a matter of time before one gives evidence of illicit help from Mr Plod. As sure as day follows night- some police will be going to jail eventually.

I wonder if there is a way that the false accusers can receive compo for being manipulated by the police?

From the victim impact statement by the Rolf Harris accuser with respect to whose allegations Rolf Harris had one of his 12 convictions overturned on appeal:

"The police helped me but the court case was very stressful. I felt people would be judging me and I would have to re-live the whole ordeal again almost as if I were an eight-year-old little girl again."

The main accuser (7/12 convictions), who had in the past asked him for thousands and been turned down, also referred to the police's helpfulness:

"Throughout my time there the police and witness care made my experience less traumatic despite Rolf's overwhelming arrogant behaviour. ... I would therefore encourage anyone who has suffered or is suffering any kind of abuse to come forward because you will be believed. Especially by the police and Crown Prosecution Service who bring perpetrators to justice."

Hedda, I completely agree with you on this, and similarly am no fan of Davidson's dubious right-wing humour (this confirmed leftie happens to think that Roy 'Chubby' Brown does the anti-PC brand of comedy far better, and funnier, than Davidson, and unlike Davidson, takes the piss out of himself, regularly vibing his audiences into welcoming him on stage with chants "you fat bastard! you fat bastard!")

I'm not a fan of Jim Davidson's humour or politics either and would never thought I'd buy a book by him, but did, and thought it was a well-written and illuminating read.

He talks about his Yewtree experience here (starting at around 4 mins 40 secs, esp. interesting what he says around 7 mins):

It sounds like some sort of weird sexual fetish thing.
