Malkovich as Poirot 6 Years, 7 Months ago
I'm rather enjoying the strangely serious Poirot and The ABC Murders.

I may have pre-judged him.
I havent seen it yet, but didnt think he could be a Poirot.

Well I thought it was very good indeed; brave and clever.

Looking forward to watching it..Malkovich brings a sustained and unique intelligence to all he appears in...always fascinating to watch....

Just binge watched the three episodes and thoroughly enjoyed the different approach.

The mood of the era was captured well - including the facism and dislike of foreigners in London, during the 1930s.

Plenty of good locations, steam trains and side stories - with underlying tension, as to what was happening in Germany and neighbouring countries.

Some things haven't changed...

I didn't like it. Too relentlessly dark and cynical and Poirot didn't seem very sympathetic. Here's hoping they don't turn it into a series!

So... different views and I can understand both; I personally found it very well written, very different and an absolute success; unexpected, I have to say (rather as nobody could match Hickson as Marple; so Suchet was the ultimate Poirot) but like different actors playing King Lear (my favourite play), why not and this was I thought a fascinating, darker, ominous version. Grint was excellent too; turning into a very good actor.
