In the aftermath of the most spolied ballot papers in Scotland ever, due to confusing forms apparently, I have to raise the point that in this day and age there seems to be very little point in having an election "day".

Some of the postal votes are not in yet and therefore not counted, I believe I`m right in saying that one constituency experimented with internet voting , this devalues the whole ethic of voting on the day.

Polling booths open for a week I say.

I turned down the invitation to vote by post. I'm all for the one election day where people go to the polling station to vote in person. This way the ballot form remains locked in the box until taken to be counted. With a postal vote your details pass through several hands and the opportunity for fraud is much increased.

Postal voting should be permitted under special circumstances, such as for those who are house bound, but otherwise people should have to get off their backsides and make an effort. If they can't be bothered then they must put up with whoever the actual voters have selected.

Keep it simple. Ask people to write an X next to their chosen candidate. It's been a successful system for many generations.

On a slight side issue, in the build up to polling day, or "Super Thursday", we recieved absolutely no election communication whatsoever through the door here.
Great for lack of leaflet litter in the porch, not so great when you look at a form and it`s the first time you have seen the candidates names and parties.

I`m afraid I don`t see it as a coincedence that when I lived in a "posh" house, it was not uncommen to meet all the candidates on the doorstep, which used to be great fun as I often let them all think they had my vote!
The first high profile female Liberal MP came from this area and I don`t think she would have been impressed for one.

Caught a bit about the spoilt papers, they seemed to be saying it was due to PR being introduced and the ballot paper being complicated... bring it on I say - if you can't work out some simple instruction you shouldn't have the vote.

Why should insipid illiterate moron have the SAME voting power as me?

If they can't understand the ballot paper - how can they understand the issues?
