TOPIC: Local Election results

Local Election results 6 Years, 3 Months ago
Interesting - everything I've said on here - Don'tVoteTory and preferably VoteLibDem - give Theresa May a black eye... seems to be happening. I'd like to take credit but suspect it's that most people feel the way I do; and I bet a second referendum would be 80% against Brexit. Or rather, against the deals offered by May, even if adapted by Labour whose version of the deal is still worse than the Status Quo and FAR worse for Brexiteers than a pure Brexit.

Greetings from another continent Doctor King.

Did you give up the day job?,,,

...80% remain?....30% already backing Brexit Party...+ UKIP + DUP + many labour voters + many more Tories....

Both main parties are being punished for delivering a bad Brexit...and council elections are not voted on using PR....often there was little electoral choice...the libs were always good at local government...the eu elections will be the judge...and will be the second referendum....just see how badly the remain vote does in that...of course you will no doubt make excuses....so get some practice in now..

Enjoy your day Sir

The results seem welcome for Remainers but I'm not sure if this is anything more than a protest vote that doesn't necessarily principally have to do with expressing a view on Brexit. Perhaps the Remain parties won't really be tested until they face the Brexit Party in the EU elections.

The problem with the Euro elections is that people will see it as a vote on Brexit where it really isn't; it's a vote for our representatives at the EU if we stay in - which really needs to be decided before the elections. So a second referendum is essential. Stubborn, stupid May will say No, a fourth vote on her ridiculous deal, possibly adapted superficially to Labour changes (like "we might examine a Customs Union") in which case expect the Commons to reject it again and, at the same time, reject both May and Corbyn. The majority, now, wants No Brexit, since no politicians appear able to extricate the UK in a proper way.

So under your theory the council elections were a vote on local services...not an 80% verdict on a second referendum?

The euro elections, with a full choice of parties, and under the fully fair pr voting system will be the perfect chance for voters to express their opinions on the eu...but of course we all know what is going to happen...and some on this forum are already getting their excuses ready...they will blame 17m racists...or blame the population for not understanding the issues....and will keep whinging on,whatever the outcome...

A good morning to you Sir...you should be swimming in this glorious pool..

Nope locals were a combination; EU is a single issue vote for representatives of the UK in a European Parliament. Of course simplicity will rule and the one word Brexit party will pretend it's about Brexit. Certainly the media will push it as such. But the reality is more complex.

The problem with democracy is that people will often not vote the way you want them to Doctor King.

The eu elections are a very simple matter,we voted out the eu,that vote has been ignored, now the electorate have a chance under a fair electoral system to deliver a verdict.

You claimed the locals as a verdict on Brexit, now you don't?...do try and be consistent please...a vote for a party that makes it clear they only want Brexit is about as simple as it could ever get...

...so get those excuses ready..the tide has turned...and will punish those who have abused democracy.. let's see how well your predictions hold?
