German EFL student almost beaten to death by gang in Canterbury 4 Years, 10 Months ago
German kid here to study English nearly beaten to death by a gang of English teens in Canterbury. I remember something similar happening a few years ago in Hastings or somewhere. This story hasn't to my knowledge been reported outside local media, even though the boy is still in a coma.

What a horrendous story and thanks for posting it; I sometimes wonder whether the only sane people on this planet are KingOfHits visitors.

Words fail me. I went to Canterbury a few years ago for a conference, everyone seemed happy and high street was jammed pack of Asian and European tourists.

I still don't understand marches they are just a pointless, you need to do something bigger to make an impact.

That's just awful. I hope he recovers.

Regarding national coverage, The Sun seems to be the only national outlet to have covered it.

I agree that marches seem rather pointless, but can't really think of any more effective ways of protesting.

okay you've turned up to march, you're very loud, got good bespoke banners, then what ? Just block roads and pavements.

There are gangs of teenage kids running riot and threatening children and adults alike in towns near where I live so this doesn't really surprise me. Police don't have the resources to investigate even burglaries these days and they seem to know they won't really do anything. People are starting to avoid areas like parks as they gather in these areas in the evenings. It's probably only a matter of time before we will get vigilante groups appearing.

And today the Mail, the Sun, Mirror and others pick up on this as a direct result of your posting here. Amazing - I'm thinking of renaming KingOfHits as Reuters.

They have the resources but the police need to bow down to political correctness and monitor Twitter.

I have just spent a couple of days in Canterbury (I came across the story about the German student because I happened to Google the town before I went). It's an idyllic place apart from a small number of the usual scum British underclass who it seems are in every town and village now. I witnessed on three different occasions local teens being aggressive and menacing to exchange students in the high street. Presumably the youths who were arrested were released on bail. I never saw a police officer once. The flowers left at the spot where he was beaten are still there (just yards from the high street). I haven't seen any updates on his condition for a few days.

German student attacked in Canterbury Daniel Ezzedine 'improving' in hospital - as police confirm River Stour search

The suspects have been released on bail, which seems incredible.

That doesn't sound good. I have only been to Canterbury once, in 1994, and remember it being very picturesque and feeling safe with no behaviour of that kind. I had the rather weird experience of visiting a small art gallery in the basement of an old building (a basement with alcoves) and entering one alcove to find two men sitting on a bench dressed in Medieval costume discussing last night's football results.

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw a police officer actually on the beat yesterday, first time in a year.

When I was in Canterbury I found it to be a melting pot. It seems the middle classes have moved out the city and live in the neighbouring villages.

The students seemed to have upper class accents - not sure if they still do these days.
