Aren't people more likely to comply because they are asked to, rather than threatened?
It will end up like speeding and parking fines. Those who can afford to pay will just do it anyway.
Thirty pounds to sit in a park all day in peace? Yes, worth every penny!

I think most people are sensible, but it's the same whether it's school right up to old age - some people just will not accept the idea that they can't do exactly what they want to, when they want to, where they want to. It's like stepping out into the road when there's traffic coming towards you - those idiots need threats to save them from their own stupidity.

It's bad enough where you live when the weather is nice, like now. There's some kind of Pavlovian process going on: stuck at home, nice weather = get the strimmer out and/or start drilling random holes for an unplanned and never to be completed DIY project. Where I live it's as if neighbours cannot cope with silence - they're forever hammering, sawing, drilling or mowing. Don't they have books to read? They must have noise, possibly because there's no sound inside their empty heads.

Yesterday, after enduring what sounded like a squirrel being sodomised, I looked out the bathroom window to see a young woman, kneeling down, trying to cut her lawn with a small hand-held hedge trimmer. It took her about an hour to cut about a metre. Then she gave up, tried to sunbathe for a bit, then got restless again and, for no obvious reason, started hammering a single nail into the side of her shed.

The sound of silence? I wish!

People are been asked to comply with the rules, rather than been forced. There are very little fines or arrests. Mostly the plod are just dispursing gatherings. There is very little deterrent for people to hold gatherings when they know they are not going to be fined, unless they repeatedly break the rules, and how are the cops going to know that they are repeatedly breaking the rules when they don't take details.

Threatening to remove the right to exercise if we don't ALL comply is not really asking, it is threatening.

It seems like nothing to do with virus transmission. I can be in a crowded shop with morons refusing to step back and the police think that is perfectly fine.
After all, we are only "asked" to stay two metres away "where possible".

But if I stop for a can of coke and a butty on a deserted beach while I am out walking, I am somehow risking the health of the nation?

I am all in favour of the two metre rule. I wish it was further! For ever! But things are bad enough without people inventing silly restrictions that don't matter at all.

Tom, I feel your pain. My neighbours are using lockdown time as an opportunity to hold crowded and rowdy parties. Rap never sounds good through brick walls.

Rap never sounds good at any time in my opinion.

It's weird - out of all of those cars where some idiot is playing ear-bleedingly loud bass-heavy music, it's always some weedy white bloke playing rap and/or hip hop. Never the Carpenters!

Yes, exactly, and there is no such group as "The Carpenters" only Carpenters.

So there is! Although I suppose you could legitimately refer to them as the Carpenters if you meant their surnames not their group?

You know, this is completely mortifying, especially as I have actually sung this in public , but I only found out last night that Obla-di-obla-da is about Desmond and MOLLY Not two blokes called Desmond and Marley, as I have always imagined.

'
Poor old Richard Carpenter didn't get the memo. He often refers to them as 'The Carpenters'. And I've not heard one DJ ever say, 'And here's Carpenters...' (Except that time when there was a lot of sawing going on in the studio).

It's getting irritating how TV and radio keep inviting these doctors to advise us and they're never challenged. I've heard a succession of 'specialists' say that wearing gloves in supermarkets is 'useless' as 'Your gloves will pass the germs on to you when you touch your face'. Well, surely gloves are only 'useless' if you touch your face with them! You may as well say not wearing gloves is 'useless' as you'll touch germs with them and maybe also touch your face! No good having a good old soapy hand wash fifteen minutes later when you get back home! And yet interviews listen to this and just nod respectfully!

Almost everyone will have touched their face umpteen times before they get home.
We need plenty of cheap antibac, and "telling" to use it.

I cant understand why they dont have adverts explaining about cross contamination. (unless they actually want us to catch it)

Well if you touch your face then I doubt any anti-bacterial wipes will help. The point is to consciously resist touching your face. That isn't that hard, I find anyway, if I'm on a very quick walk to the local shop and back. But I just don't understand these doctors saying don't wear gloves. You can get infected via your hands touching door knobs, buttons or baskets, so why on earth dismiss gloves because you might then touch your face? I just cannot understand what they're thinking.
